L'IRLANDA CHIEDE DI ANDARE AL MONDIALE

The Football Association of Ireland today (November 30) confirmed that it attended an hour and a half meeting, at its request, with Mr Sepp Blatter, President of FIFA on Friday in Zurich. A lot was discussed at the meeting and at one stage the FAI asked if Ireland could be accommodated into the World Cup 2010.

Other suggestions were also made to mitigate against further occurrences of such incidents, including the use of additional goal line assistant referees for FIFA international matches, further use of video technology for matches at the highest level, stronger provisions to discourage players from engaging in such blatant breaches of the Laws of the Game and provisions to strengthen referee selection for such important matches.

Sostanzialmente l'Irlanda chiede alla FIFA di essere ammessa assieme alle altre 32 squadre che la prossima estate voleranno in Sud Africa per giocarsi il mondiale(si, si, poi da anche consigli costruttivi per un calcio migliore ma, siamo sinceri, che gliene frega a loro...); francamente mi sembra una cosa molto difficile, se non impossibile, ma staremo a vedere...

Comunicato della FAI:

«La decisione gravemente sbagliata dell'arbitro ha seriamente danneggiato l'integrità dello sport e domandiamo quindi alla Fifa, in quanto massima istituzione mondiale del calcio, di fare in modo che la gara sia ripetuta. La prova incontrovertibile del fallo di mano di Henry che ha portato al gol della Francia nel primo tempo supplementare è stato visto in televisione dagli spettatori di tutto il mondo»
